EU acts to reduce PFAS emissions

The European Chemicals Agency made the details of the proposed restriction of around 10 000 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) available on ECHA’s website. Producers of fuel cell stacks in the future will be confronted with a limitation in the use of Fl containing membranes, such as Nafion. A derogation is being asked for by some industries but the enormous risks of PFAS make such a move unlikely.

The health and environmental risks of PFAS are such that alternatives will have to be found and used.
